Tom Curley, PhD | Faculty | Atlantic University

I see learning as a partnership between the student-learner and the teacher-learner. As my desire to learn grows, I believe that I attract students who help to fulfill my desire. In my view, education is not simply about what we gain intellectually, but it also concerns the heart and the hand. The heart is a symbol of the inner transformation that occurs as we take what we learn “to heart.” The hand is a symbol of the impact we have on the world around us as we express what is now within our hearts. Atlantic University’s emphasis upon this view of education puts it at the leading edge of a form of education that empowers individuals. This is the place to be in these exciting times.

My recent interests include the inner dimension of personal and professional leadership. My background is in the area of American philosophy, especially the pragmatism of Charles Sanders Peirce, William James, and John Dewey. The courses I teach reflect these interests and this background.
