Mindful Leadership Graduate Certificate Overview

This program is intentionally designed to bring mindfulness to the center stage of leadership development. Contemporary leadership requires people to be able to manage constant, competing commitments for attention. Mindfulness provides a means for people to focus, concentrate, and bring their attention onto the present moment. Mindful leaders, we believe, are more self-aware, better able to manage themselves, more emotionally aware, and better able to exemplify authentic leadership. Additionally, they seek to help cultivate mindful leadership in those with whom they work.

  • Examine the foundations of mindfulness theory through wisdom and faith traditions, and science.
  • Create and implement a personal mindfulness practice applicable to multiple dimensions of one’s life.
  • Examine and critique theories and principles of ethics and mindful leadership.
  • Evaluate their own skills, strengths, and limitations as leaders and followers through self-reflection and mindfulness practices.
  • Investigate and develop one’s philosophy

Key Content

We believe leaders who engage in mindfulness practice(s) develop skill sets and perspectives that allow them to handle demands associated with our ever-changing, contemporary society. Those who can embody attributes of mindful leadership are more self-aware and better able to regulate their inner landscape. Working from the premise that who we are impacts how we lead, this inner dimension is critical to our overall relational, strategic, organizational and outcome capacities. Additionally, mindful leaders are able to help cultivate the mindset, skill set and leadership strengths in those with whom they work.
