Kathy Binns, PhD | Faculty | Atlantic University

Kathy Binns is a lifelong learner and dedicated educator, passionate about holistic living, consciousness transformation, and past life exploration. She is equally committed to mentoring others on their transpersonal journeys, believing in the mutual growth of students and teachers as they explore their connections to each other and the world around them. Prior to earning the Master’s in Transpersonal Psychology at Atlantic University, she earned a PhD in Linguistics from SUNY-Buffalo, where she focused on American and other signed languages. Her deep appreciation for the interplay between language, culture, and accessibility extends to her interest in the language of transpersonal experiences and healing. Additionally, she also holds Master’s degrees in Complementary Alternative Medicine, Linguistics, and English. An Army brat and Air Force veteran, Kathy is now an Army civilian, committed to improving the well-being of veterans through mindfulness education.

Kathy’s love of nature and deep connection to all living things are central to her life. To maintain good health and centeredness, Kathy enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and kayaking. Her regular yoga and meditation practice includes sound/vibration healing with crystal and Tibetan bowls, drums, and other instruments. She is also a Karuna reiki master, a shamanic practitioner, and a stone medicine healer. Kathy believes in the connection between creativity, spirituality, and wellness, which is reflected in her diverse interests: cooking new dishes, tending a small garden, and preparing herbal remedies. She enjoys photography, knitting, quilting, woodworking, and broom-making. Kathy and her family, along with their two dogs and two cats, all rescues, live in Kentucky. She is also a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and volunteers at a local wildlife center.
